Pie Insurance faces down Berkshire in digital workers’ comp

 

Summary: Pie Insurance is making moves in the $53 billion U.S. workers’ compensation insurance market. In October, Pie gained approval to sell coverage in California, and also is licensed innColorado, Georgia, Illinois, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. New York and Michigan are next on the company’s agenda.

One of Pie’s competitors is Berkshire Hathaway, which launched BiBerk last year. While it is expensive to manually underwrite workers’ comp for small commercial businesses, Pie digitizes the underwriting process.
